Hi Kallaghan, it’s great to chat! How have you been?

Hey, I’ve been doing well. I recently returned from EDC Mexico, and I’m gearing up to perform during Miami Music Week 2024, which, naturally, takes place in Miami, where I’ll be supporting No redemption, Chris Lorenzo, Boyz Noise.

What was the inspiration behind your decision to pursue a career in music?

Honestly, I fell ill during my teenage years with peritonitis, which confined me to my home. It was during this time that I discovered Cakewalk and developed a passion for immersing myself in geeky pursuits behind my computer. This marked the beginning of my journey into recording music, starting with my own bands and those of my friends from the South. For me, it became a form of therapy, providing solace during my confinement at home.

What were some of your early career milestones that had helped you achieve recognition?

Back when I was in the south of France, I was working for a content company where I had the chance to develop sounds for Google Android and do all their sound design for the first Google phone, then I worked for Ubisoft and did some content for Sony PlayStation, at the same time I was developing my own recording studios, With one called Catan Studios where I recorded a bunch of artists from Paris, Ireland, from UK… and it got me started as a Producer, having to work for a lot of Rock bands; as a Producer there my first big success was with Falling In Reverse, ‘Back into 715’ were I co-wrote the entire album ‘Just Like You.’
And since then, I achieved gold and platinum records, then I started as an Electronic music artist, and my first release was ‘Losing My Mind’ distributed by Insomniac Records. Being able to play EDC Vegas and EDC Mexico has been a blessing special because I started DJing just two years ago, and this year, I am opening two creative studios in Miami called Kallaghan Studios Miami. Hopefully I’ll be able to create a culture around the artists that work there with all my friends in the music industry.

How do you feel your music has evolved over the years, and what influences  have shaped your sound now?

Honestly, when I delved into Electronic music, my aim was simply to escape from the world, so I found myself emulating various artists. I particularly admired figures like Chris Lorenzo, Chris Lake, and Tchami, and this was about two years ago. However, I reached a point where I needed to introspect and decide who I truly wanted to be, as spending years as a Producer had led me to embody everyone else but myself. Eventually, I believe I’ve rediscovered my roots in Rock and Punk music. I’m now actively playing guitar on several songs that I’m preparing to release, as well as incorporating them into my live set.

Which collaborations or performances have been particularly significant to your music career?

I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with incredible singers such as Melii, Bryce Hase and talented DJs like Maesic throughout my young Electronic career. Working with amazing artists like Falling In Reverse, Davey Suicide, and exceptional instrumentalists like Luke Holland has broadened my horizons in various directions. I’ve always had a penchant for exploring diverse genres, but as an Electronic artist under the alias Kallaghan, I’m now honing in on condensing my sound and channeling my energy towards achieving a unique sonic identity integrating my Rock and Punk background.

What are some of your favorite tracks or EP you are proud to have released thus far?

Honestly, I have a deep appreciation for all the songs I’ve released, each for it’s own unique reasons. However, if I had to pick my top five, one would definitely be “TODO” – it marked my first collaboration with a French DJ and a Colombian singer. It’s a dark track that blends the sounds of Miami with my Rock music background and darker elements. Another favorite is “Skyfall,” where the ambient guitars take center stage. But what I’m most excited about is the upcoming release of my next song, “Pyramid,” along with several new tracks that feature a much more distorted and aggressive sound.

What do you feel sets you apart from other artists in Electronic Music?

I don’t really see myself solely as a DJ. For the first two years, I viewed myself more as an Electronic act. I had to pick up DJ skills and integrate into the scene. But what sets me apart now is my live guitar performances. My sets are akin to a Rock show, with dynamic ups and downs, rather than maintaining a consistent vibe throughout. I incorporate a lot of classic elements from bands like Blur or Limp Bizkit, while also drawing heavy influence from electronic remix acts like Propellerheads.

Can you share some memorable moments or highlights from your live performances?

Meeting Benny Benassi at EDC Mexico got me inspired. Playing in Aspen in the middle of winter. Having the chance to join on a private Jet with a bunch of Texans, haha.

How do you feel your music had impacted your fans and the wider music community?

I believe I’m injecting a Punk-Rock ethos into the Electronic scene. Initially, when I began producing Rock music in Los Angeles, I brought some European Electronic elements to Rock bands. Now, it feels like things have come full circle. I’m eager for my fans to grasp the importance of being unique; it’s the most valuable quality one can possess when pursuing an artistic career.

What future projects or endeavors can we look forward from you in the next few months?

I’m excited to announce the opening of two new creative studios in Miami under the name KALLAGHAN STUDIOS. These spaces will serve as the backdrop for my upcoming podcast, “The French Roast,” and will be hubs for collaboration with various artists. Additionally, I’m gearing up to release a series of new songs, including the highly anticipated track “Pyramid.”
