UK-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Rules returns with his latest EP As Soon As I Get Home, a six-track body of work that marks a defining moment in his artistic progression. Released via Counter Records, the project sees Rules continuing to refine his signature blend of warm, atmospheric house and emotionally driven songwriting, balancing subtlety with scale.
Written across a period of transition, As Soon As I Get Home explores themes of memory, movement and connection, capturing the quiet tension between solitude and togetherness. It builds on the momentum of recent singles while offering a cohesive and immersive listening experience, rooted in both dancefloor energy and introspection.
Speaking on the project, Rules explains “The title of the EP represents a journey, and all the pensive and nostalgic thoughts that tie together in its duration. Produced for calm long drives, sunsets with friends, road trips, solo commuting journeys and late night walks, I drew together a mix of acoustic instruments, pianos/ Wurlitzers keyboards, synthesisers to bring out organic textures alongside nostalgic synth leads and pads. The vocals featured on the EP took the lead and the writing process was always about trying to draw the raw emotion from their unique voices.”
Opening the project is ‘Could Have Been So Good (feat. Bandit)’, a tender, building melodic dance ballad grounded by emotive keys and a pulsating bassline, followed by the title track ‘As Soon As I Get Home (feat. SHYA)’, which carries forward its predecessor’s driving keys and features close collaborator SHYA, whose vocals sit front and centre, acting as the EP’s emotional anchor. Accompanying the track, is the visualiser for ‘As Soon As I Get Home’, self-directed by Rules and a further showcase of the multi-faceted creative vision behind the new project.
The project’s introspective thread continues to run throughout the EP, with Rules placing trust in his collaborators to give voice to stories of love, loss and longing. ‘Silverlight’ vocalled and co-written by Poppy Baskcomb and collaborators Parisi and Paul Harris and ‘Feeling (Hold On You) (feat. MURPHY)’ continues this narrative, shifting the project into a more focused instrumental space. The single was also selected as BBC Introducing’s Tune of The Week and achieved playlisting on BBC Radio 1, marking another milestone moment for the rising producer.
‘Nothing Left (feat. Coldabank & SHYA)’ introduces another intimate, vocal-led moment, marking one of the project’s most affecting cuts. Blending understated intensity with gradual, club-ready momentum, it’s built around layered analogue textures and reflects the EP’s recurring themes of resilience and emotional endurance. Closing track ‘In Your Love’ that sees Rules team up with fellow producer and friend Andy Sheldrake, who brings the project to a final point of release, culminating in a crescendo that underlines Rules’ electronic credentials.
Rules’ As Soon As I Get Home EP arrives off the back of a strong run of live performances, including a sold-out EU/UK tour including dates in Glasgow, Manchester, Amsterdam, Dublin and a headline London show at Village Underground. These performances have further cemented his reputation for translating introspective recordings into powerful shared experiences on the dancefloor.
Continuing that momentum, Rules will also host a special free fan event in London on Saturday 6th June – to be hosted as a rooftop daytime DJ set, sponsored by Jubel.
With As Soon As I Get Home, Rules delivers his most complete and personal project to date, and one that reflects both where he is now, and where he’s heading next.
