Electronic music extraordinaire Kasbo continues to build on the buzz around his upcoming album with his new single and video ‘I’m In Trouble’ featuring Swedish trio ViVii, out on 15th May.

An uplifting, uptempo tune full of dulcet synth tones and otherworldly topline melodies from ViVii, ‘I’m In Trouble’ is a gorgeous new addition to Kasbo’s album campaign. With a chorus lighter than air against a soundscape of soaring atmospherics, the Swedish producer proves why his emotive sound is causing so much buzz on the electronic scene. An immersive music video accompanies the newest single, which was directed and produced by Jessie McCall with Sean Kusanagi as the creative director. The visuals present intrusive thoughts in corporeal form and further explore the album theme of decelerating, while starring Kasbo in one of his videos for the very first time.

Around the video, its director and producer Jessie states “I felt so aligned with the whole team behind this shoot, who gave me so much room creatively to bring the vision of “I’m In Trouble” to life. Sean Kusanagi, by offering his expertise, helped me relax on set, allowing me to channel and translate what I bring to stills into film. I was flattered that Carl was open to being brave in front of the camera. Not only did he exceed my expectations, but anyone watching would’ve thought him to be seasoned at falling into a pool off of a ladder, which believe me, is an incredibly awkward ask of somebody. The fact this low-budget project came out looking high-budget is a testament to what this team is able to pull off.”

Speaking around the record, Kasbo comments “‘I’m In Trouble’ is about communicating to a loved one that you might not be doing so good, but in that able to share the load and go through it together. Fending off negative thoughts isn’t as tough when you’re two.”

‘I’m In Trouble’ is the latest in a string of hit singles on his album release trail, after February’s acclaimed double single ‘Drift’ and ‘Atlantis’ featuring Shallou and Swedish singer BJOERN, and the more recent ‘This Is It’ ft Frida Sundemo and ‘Resenären’.

Following his second album The Making of a Paracosm, released four years ago on ODESZA’s Foreign Family Collective and Counter Records, Kasbo returns with his anticipated third record, The Learning of Urgency, out June 7th.

Kasbo recorded The Learning of Urgency largely while living in Gothenburg and Stockholm. He had the opportunity to record the majority of the upcoming album at Stockholm’s Arresten, a serene and unique former jail-transformed-studio, owned by ABBA’s Benny Anderson and located on the island of Skeppsholmen.

For Kasbo, The Learning Of Urgency is an extremely important concept. The songwriting orbits around slowing down, as the past few years of his life have been ridden with a sense of acute pressure, manifesting into a subconscious compulsion to constantly achieve and do more. The result nearly cost him his career, as he developed rare, stress-related hearing loss. The natural slowdown of the pandemic put these stressors into perspective, and through addressing them, he was able to get back on track, personally and professionally, and write this new album.

ViVii is a Swedish indie-pop trio based in Stockholm. Made up of singers and multi-instrumentalists Emil and Caroline Jonsson, and multi-instrumentalist and studio whizz and the band’s producer Anders Eckeborn, the trio have one thing in mind: dreaming up a better world through song.

Clearly they’re onto something. Hit single ‘Savant’ has been streamed 6.5 million times on Spotify alone, and the self-titled album that followed in 2019 has over 15 million streams. Since then the hits have kept coming, and ViVii’s sublime dreampop has taken them round the world on tour, from their production base in Uppsala, an hour north of Stockholm, all the way to the California of The Beach Boys.

Kasbo, born Carl Garsbo, has established himself as a sensation across electronic music with his transformative, emotional sound. Ever a creative mind, for Kasbo, the past years of isolation were quick to transform into an era of curiosity and introspection. Time spent away from tour and at home in Sweden galvanized him to turn to what he knew best – music. He found solace in honing in on his DJing while at home and sharing music with his friends, bonding over nostalgic memories and music that encouraged them to keep it moving, even during this time spent away from the dancefloor. He reveled in the minimal subtlety of euphoric club music, became infatuated with hypnotic trip hop from the likes of Moby and Massive Attack, and explored the ambient melodies of the likes of Rival Consoles, Max Cooper, and Olafur Arnalds. Months spent away from touring the world transformed into an invaluable period of deep diving into a newfound realm of music.

Kasbo’s music has received over 500M combined streams to date. He’s been awarded Sweden’s P3 Gold Award for ‘Dance Artist of the Year’ and has received praise from Billboard, The FADER, Stereogum, and more. With an increasingly expanding skill set, Kasbo has reached the trifecta of modern dance music as a live performer, a DJ, and a producer.
