A-Eno-Acid’s The Last Jack: Acid That Holds Its Shape

Share

The 303 is mixed as a lead voice rather than a texture, and the drums stay clipped and dry around it. That makes the tracks easy to ride in a set without forcing a peak.

Most of The Last Jack works a late-1980s Chicago acid house frame — dark, patient, more pressure than release. A few later cuts drift toward early-1990s Detroit, and two or three tracks pull back into home-listening acid and house, which keeps the record from becoming a one-note jack. It closes on an ambient 303 piece, with the drums pulled right back.

The Last Jack is the new album from A-Eno-Acid, and the project’s material has been played by DJs including Placid, DAMO B, Colin Dale and Jerome Hill. It is for DJs who want dark, patient acid for the back end of a set.
