This grungey face melter is the first single from Cringey’s ‘Cringey Core’ mixtape
Berlin hyperpop artists DJ Cringey and Fanny link up for their new single, ‘Contrast’, out December 13th via Bamboo Artists. It’s the exciting next glimpse of DJ Cringey’s forthcoming debut mixtape, Cringey Core, which arrives in February.
“Cringey Core to me is about raw emotion, f*cked up nights and heavy beats,” explains DJ Cringey. “I wanted to create a tape that reflects the messiness and fluidity of heartbreak in Berlin, the restlessness of trying to figure it all out.”
‘Contrast’ bursts with hyperpop-tinged techno energy. The duo trade vocals seamlessly, rapping and singing in both German and English. Gritty at its core, the track shifts from techno to almost post-punk, layered with heavily distorted electric guitar, before taking an unexpected turn into rave-y drum breaks. It’s a bold fusion of styles, even weaving in touches of gabber along the way.
To accompany the single is a music video, produced by a female-led crew and directed by photographer, director and writer Alma Leandra, an esteemed creative at media and fashion company, 032c.
Based in Berlin, DJ Cringey is a Kiwi-German DJ, producer, and artist known for her fearless fusion of genres blending techno with elements hyperpop, electroclash, latincore and even punk-rock.
